Re: Some news from Loraine

Thank you for keeping us informed. I really miss watching Star and the baby eagles, hopefully this year might be better.

Re: Some news from Loraine

Hi Larry, this is the latest....

2/25/2010
We're not sure which eagles are visiting but we do have adult eagles
squawking most early mornings here.  This morning there are branches on the
ground all around the tree again, its a good sign.  We do know this nest
tree and others in the area are permanent bald eagle roost/perch trees.  It
could these visitors are youngsters from years past now old enough & adorned
with white heads and tails?  On the other hand, it may be Star and Spirit.
Its an exciting thought isn't it!?

The last WDFW tree climb/camera reset pulled the view out so far that we
can't really tell who's who.  Camera's are functioning correctly but they're
not connected to the internet.   We can see if/when there is nest building
progression unfortunately the constructing that was so fierce last fall has
slowed -- we're just not sure if it's due to the strange weather year and
they haven't really gotten into the "swing of it" yet or if they've found a
more suitable location to raise a family.

So much habitat in this area, the trees, meadows and fields have been
removed and replaced by housing, we're not sure if that's part of the
decline in use or if they just haven't had enough time to fully rebuild this
nest, it is still early.  We're wondering if they know what's what with all
this weird (yet pleasant) weather.  All the smaller birds are chirping like
they do in early spring, blossoming trees are full of color, bulbs are up
and blooming but it's still chilly in the mornings -- none of it suppose to
be for another month or so.  Sounds like rain in the forecast for a few days
again.  Except for flood prone areas, that's a good thing....it keeps
everything green.

Well your guess is as good as ours, will they or won't they?  Time will
tell.  Say a prayer and keep your fingers crossed!   Thank you for
writing...

3/1/10
Over the weekend we had a pair of Redtail hawks flying over and around, investigating the surroundings and standing in the nest.  This may become very interesting if the eagles return like they have been and see their long time nest being investigated by inquisitive hawks.  They're not friends in the least, sadly hawks typically don't come out on the good side of this sort of encounter.  Again time will tell.

Take care, bright blessings and keep in touch!

The "Eagle Whisperer" in this story is our own Tim Brown.  He always did have a way with these beautiful birds.. and did the same thing here when our 2 juveniles had fishing line wrapped and tethered to their legs .... 2004, 2005?
